Aksu-Jabagly state reserve,

the oldest Central Asian reserve, which saves splendid nature of Western Tien-Shan during 75 years. There are luxuriant mountain fields and steppes, magnificent juniper forest, amazing affluent springs and rivers, flinty rocks and snows. There grows 1400 species of flowers including rare and really beautiful Tulipa greigii – king of tulips, the beautiful Juno orchioides and coerulea, Morina kokanika, Tulipa kaufmanniana, Allium pskemense and Allium karataviense, Korolkovia sewerzovii and a lot of other pretty flowers. This diversity of plants amounts 25 percent of Kazakhstan’s flora. 27 species of plants are not found in other places over the world. Flora of reserve has 16 species of plants included in the Red Data Book of former Soviet Union and 36 species included in the Red Data Book of Kazakhstan. Lots of flowers of Aksu-Jabagly reserve look very attractive in gardens.
The reserve is inhabited by 238 species of birds, 9 of them are in the Red Data Book (Egyptian Vulture, Golden Eagle, Lammergeier, Black Stork, Blue Whistling-Thrush, Paradise Flycatcher and others). 24 species of Aksu-Jabagly’s mammals fauna are included in the Red Data Book of Kazakhstan (Arkhar, Isabelline Brown Bear, Snow Leopard, Centralasian Lynx).

Karatau mountains

In the 280 square kilometre territory there are 150 species of endemic plants including Populus berkarensis, Rhaphidophyton regelii, Cousinia grandifolia, Pseuderemostahys sewerzovii In Karatau it is possible to look at relict species as Spiraeanthus schrenkianus, amazing Pyrus regelii and other interesting species. Karatau has tract where rare Paradise Flycatcher and Golden Oriole sit on each bush and red poppies cover enormous territory.

South-Kazakhstan steppe lakes

One of the peculiar “accumulator” for birds, migrating from tundra and Siberian areas. In reaches of the lakes Taskol, Darbaza, Kyzylkol and Ters-Aschibulak reservoir thousands of shorebirds, gulls, ducks, herons and other birds gather together in spring and autumn. In cane thicket and on the shore of Bilekul and Shoshkakul lakes it is possible to see the most typical waterfowl Asian birds as LittleBittern, Little Egret, Black-winged Stilt, Black-capped Avocet, White-tailed Lapwing, Collared Pratincole, Bearded Reedling, Cetti’s Bush-Warbler and others.

Moyinkum and Kyzylkum deserts,

whose peculiar severe nature certainly attracts researchers from all over the world. In Moyinkums it is possible to see sand reptilians as Racerunner Lizard , Toad-beaded Agamid, Steppe Agama, Central-Asian Tortoise. In saline desert near Shoshkakul you will surely meet Upcher’s Warbler, Rufous Warbler, Gray and Lesser Short-toiled Lark and will be able to look at magnificent colony of Blue-checked Bee-eater.

Chokpak ornithological bird ringing station,

which had ringed about two millions of 150 species of birds during 35 years. Annually there are made enormous helmholland catches with 25x12-m gate. In some of spring days the station catches thousands of birds, but in the autumn this place attracts the viewer by diversity of species. There is no need in numbering the birds you can see there because they are the best of Central and Northern Asia species.

We can offer you from one-day to sixteen-day trips’ programs. If you are a lover of the beauties of nature and have not so much time we offer you to meet Aksu river canyon – this excursion may take half a day. If you have a whole day for excursions we will offer you an intensive program – excursion to Aksu canyon and Kshi-Kaindy chine. But if you have enough time, it is better to spend two days for this trip. If you are a passionate botanist or ornithologist we have special excursions including visits to reserve, Karatau, Mashat and Sayramsu Mountains, steppe lakes, deserts and other interesting places. If you wish we can include elements of cultural program in your tour– folklore ensemble’s concert, national food evening, “kokpar” and others.

We offer hiking, horse riding and car trips. During hiking and horse-riding excursions we will take you to the place of start. During car tours it is possible to mix hiking with car transportation. If you have never ridden a horse, we will select a calm horse for you, and if you are a lover of fast riding, we will give you an “aigyr” (very strong and fast horse).

The village called Jabagly (the former name is Novonikolaevka), where our boarding house is located, is situated in Tulkubas region of South-Kazakhstan oblast. The administration of Aksu-Jabagly nature reserve is located in the same village. We will meet you at the nearest airports or railway station Tulkubas and take to the accommodation place. We can book and buy tickets to any place of the world. If you want to use your own transport, you can get to us very easily – Jabagly village is situated in 10 kilometres from Tashkent-Almaty track. It is 220 kilometres from Tashkent and 100 kilometres from Shymkent and Taraz. There is a signpost “Jabagly ” (“Жабаглы”) on the Tashkent-Almaty track between Ak-Biik (Ак-биик) (former name is Kuybishev) and Shakpak-Baba (Шакпак-баба) (former name is Vysokoye).

We will settle you in a wonderful village hotel with shower and toilet to double rooms. If you wish this rooms may be used as “singles”. We can offer a cottage with two double-rooms (with shower and toilet), detached house with two rooms (with shower and toilet) and a hall, or big house with 9 rooms, 2 halls, 3 showers and 3 toilets. During your stay at the territory of reserve we will settle you in the mountain scientist’s base (there is shower and toilet too).

Professional cooks make a food we offer during our tours; it is different and delicious. Our full board includes light breakfast, portioned lunch on excursion and very nutritious dinner of four courses. If you wish, we can make only breakfast and lunch may be served in the hotel. During the stay in the territory of reserve the food will not differ from the hotel’s. During excursions lunch will be taken to the place.
